Cardinals shred Murray's homework clause after social media shaming. Seahawks Metcalf signs $72M deal, Robinson comments on leaving Chiefs for Raiders, Cowboys sign USFL MVP KaVontae Turpin, Steelers Trubisky to mentor Pickett, and more NFL news.
Cardinals shred Murray's "homework clause"
News widely circulated earlier this week about Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's $230 million contract containing an "independent study addendum" that requires he spends four hours per week studying film, per ESPN.
But after the quarterback ranted that the so-called "homework" clause was "disrespectful" and "a joke," the Cardinals have removed it from his contract, CBSSports reported.
"After seeing the distraction it created, we removed the referendum from the contract," Arizona said in a statement. "It was clearly perceived in ways that were never intended. Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it's ever been and nothing demonstrates our belief in his ability to lead this team more than the commitment reflected in this contract."
Seahawks sign DK Metcalf to three-year $72M extension
DK Metcalf is now the sixth highest-paid receiver in the NFL after signing a three-year, $72 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks, which includes the highest signing bonus for a wide receiver in league history, CBSSports reported. The contract gives Metcalf $58.2 million guaranteed and a $30 million signing bonus.
Demarcus Robinson on leaving Chiefs for Raiders
Former Chiefs wide receiver Demarcus Robinson reportedly snubbed a deal to remain with Kansas City. Instead, he decided to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders--and he's glad he did. Robinson says, despite being in a competitive environment of wide receivers, he's learning a lot from Devante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, Sports Illustrated reported.
"Davante has got nice releases, everybody knows that," Robinson said. "Taking a lot of stuff from him. Late hands, catching the ball, how to track the ball. There is a lot of stuff you can learn from both of those guys."
Cowboys sign USFL MVP KaVontae Turpin
The Cowboys have signed USFL MVP and punt return ace KaVontae Turpin, who was also a standout at TCU, Dallas announced on Thursday. Turpin recently played for the New Jersey Generals. As the team roster was already maxed at 90, the Cowboys waived fullback Nick Ralston to clear a slot, CBSSports reported.
Steelers' QB Mitch Trubisky willing to mentor Kenny Pickett
Steelers veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said he has no qualms about helping mentor rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett as they both began their first training camp with Pittsburgh, CBSSports reported.
"Going into year six, I have a lot of experience when it comes to training camp, when it comes to learning offenses," Trubisky said. "I've seen a lot of defenses."
"Having those conversations helps me as well," Trubisky said. "We're all just trying to push each other, and when we all do that, everyone gets better."
Buccaneers' center Jensen carted off the practice field, feared to have significant knee injury
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen was carted off the field during training camp practice on Thursday and head coach Todd Bowles later revealed it was a knee injury, and per NFL network report, it may be significant, CBSSports reported.
