Baseball Hall of Fame inductees

What's garnering more headlines for this year's baseball Hall of Fame inductees is not who got in but who was left out by the Hall committee. The Hall of Fame committee on Sunday passed over Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Curt Schilling.

First baseman Fred McGriff, a five-time All-Star who led both leagues in home runs in separate years (AL in 1989 and NL in 1992), will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 23, along with anyone else to be chosen in the Baseball Writers’ Association of America vote that will be announced on January 24, the Associated Press reported.

Deion Sanders hired as head coach of Colorado Buffaloes

Deion Sanders was hired as the new head coach for the Colorado University Buffaloes on Sunday. Sanders vowed to lead the team back to prominence.

"Simultaneously, like I played baseball and football, I can multitask and I can focus," Sanders assured a crowd of alumni, boosters, former players, and other VIPs. "This is my job and my occupation and my business and my dream to bring you back to where you know you should belong."

The former NFL and MLB superstar is the only athlete ever to play in both the Super Bowl and the World Series.

In his three seasons at Jackson State, Sanders has led its football team to a 27-5 record in three seasons. On December 17, Sanders will coach the unbeaten Jackson State Tigers in the Celebration Bowl, the championship for historically Black college football programs, ESPN reported.

Jimmy Garoppolo injury out for the season, 49ers sign new quarterback

Jimmy Garoppolo became the starting quarterback for the 49ers the season after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury. Now, Garoppolo has a season-ending injury of his own after suffering a broken foot on Sunday in week 13 against the Dolphins, CBSSports reported.

San Francisco will now turn to rookie QB Brock Purdy as their starter. The 49ers moved quickly on Sunday night, signing veteran Josh Johnson off the Broncos' practice squad, according to ESPN. The 49ers also have Jacob Eason on their practice squad, and he would appear to be Purdy's immediate backup.
