With less than a month before the 2022 training camp, the Washington Commanders have signed receiver Terry McLaurin to a 3-year deal worth up to $71M, making him one of the highest-paid WRs in the game.
Receiver Terry McLaurin inks $71M deal with Commanders
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin, 26, held out of voluntary workouts and mandatory minicamp this spring as he was seeking a new contract. Now he's got one--a whopping extension worth up to $71 million through the 2025 season, CBSSports reported.
McLaurin kept his distance from the Commanders through the off-season as he was due just over $3 million on the final year of his rookie contract and was hopeful for a better deal.
The Commanders came to the table with a solid deal to keep McLaurin around, as his new contract will give him an average of $23.7 million per year. The deal also includes a signing bonus of $28 million and is more than 75% completely guaranteed.
McLaurin joins club of elite highly paid WRs
The new deal makes McLaurin one of the five highest-paid receivers in the NFL.
McLaurin joins the club of other lucrative contracts signed by wide receivers that will be finalized this year. This off-season, Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp, Tyreek Hill, A.J. Brown, Mike Williams, and D.J. Moore all signed big-money contract extensions.
But McLaurin has a higher average income during the life of the extension than those deals signed by Williams and Moore, which elevates him among the top five highest-paid receivers in the league.
