Tennis: Roger Federer retires
Tennis legend Roger Federer, 41, announced his retirement on Thursday. The 20-time grand slam winner said next week's Laver Cup tournament in London will be his very last, Sporting News reported.
Federer cited "challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries" and the struggle of having "worked hard to return to full competitive form," noting, "I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career." He added: "I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour."

Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford have agreed to all material terms for a fight for the undisputed welterweight championship, an event targeted for Nov. 19 in Las Vegas. However, a deal has yet to be signed as attorneys work out the legal language, ESPN reported.
One of the stipulations is a bilateral rematch clause that the loser of the bout will have the right to exercise. If triggered, the winner of the rematch will earn the majority of the revenue for the return bout. Spence holds the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles, while Crawford has the WBO belt.
MLB: Judge belts 57th homer, could take AL Triple Crown
Aaron Judge belted his 56th and 57th homers on Tuesday night, leaving him just four home runs away from tying Roger Maris’ American League and Yankees franchise record of 61 HRs, the New York Post reported.
With just three weeks left in the season, Judge is also holding the lead in RBIs and is currently fourth in AL batting leaders, giving him an outside chance of winning the AL Triple Crown, MLB.com reported.
NBA: Jordan Jersey fetches record price
"The last dance" Jersey from the 1998 NBA finals belonging to NBA legend Michael Jordan sold for an astounding $10.1 million at Sotheby's auction house on Thursday, setting a record for the most money spent on a basketball jersey or any game-worn sports memorabilia, as well as any Jordan item sold that any auction, Sports Illustrated reported.
The previous record holder was a Diego Maradona 'Hand of God' jersey from the 1986 World Cup that was bought for $9.28 million in May.
NFL: Seahawks' safety Adams out for 2022
Star safety for the Seattle Seahawks Jamaal Adams will be out for the remainder of the 2022 season after suffering a torn quad in Monday night's opening game against the Broncos. Reportedly, Adams received multiple medical opinions and has opted to undergo surgery on a torn quadriceps tendon, CBSSports reported.

Phoenix Suns vice chairman and minority owner Jahm Najafi called for majority owner Robert Sarver's resignation in an open letter to team employees released on Thursday. NHL: Bruins Marchand eyeing late November return
Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand, 34, has been recovering for nearly four months now from successful surgery on both hips and will return to the ice this week. He is expected to return to competitive action in late November, NHL.com reported.
This is the second off-season surgery Marchand has undergone in the last two years, following a sports hernia repair on his abs and groin in September 2020.
