After what has been a crazy year, it’s hard to believe we only have a couple of months left in the 2020-2021 NFL season. And, while there are many teams capable of winning the 2021 Super Bowl, there are just a handful of favorites.
This season’s playoff games are destined to be crazier than ever given what’s going on in our world, but here are the three teams I believe are most likely to win the 2021 Super Bowl. (Spoiler alert, New York Jets fans, but your team is not making the list this year. Neither is yours, Cowboys fans).
As I am writing this article, the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently the only undefeated team left in the NFL. For this reason alone, it’s easy to predict they’ll be the team lifting the trophy when it’s all said and done. However, they have had a relatively easy season thus far.
Sure, they’ve had to play the Baltimore Ravens, a solid Tennessee Titans team, and a decent Cleveland Browns squad, but they haven’t played any of the heavy hitters in the NFC. Not to mention, they aren’t playing the Kansas City Chiefs this season.. The Steelers are good, don’t get me wrong, but they are vulnerable. And, while quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is a veteran and has led the team to Super Bowls before, he is 38 years old and starting to show signs of slowing down.
The New Orleans Saints have looked vulnerable at times this season, but when they’re on, they’re on. The team’s 38-3 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a near-perfect game and proved once again why Drew Brees should never be overlooked. Alvin Kamara is right up there with Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans as one of the best running backs in the game, and they also have Emmanuel Saunders and Michael Thomas.
Yes, the Saints lost to the Packers and the Raiders, but they haven’t lost a game since the end of September. They’ll certainly be tested when they play the Chiefs later this month, but I think there’s a good chance they’re the NFC champions when this season’s all said and done.
What is there to say about the Kansas City Chiefs that hasn’t already been said? They have the best player in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes, they have arguably the best tight end in the NFL in Travis Kelce, and they also have one of the best receivers in the NFL in Tyreek Hill. Oh, and they also have a slew of other offense threats that would be the stars of any other team (looking at you, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman). The Chiefs lost one game this season to the Las Vegas Raiders and their defense has looked very vulnerable at times, but there just doesn’t seem to be a team out there that can really compete with Kansas City’s offense. Are the Chiefs beatable? Of course. Is it really, really, really hard to beat them? You betcha. It is very hard to win back-to-back Super Bowls, but if there’s a team out there who could do it, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs.
