First Chiefs Player to Appear on Madden Cover
On April 25, 2019, Mahomes was announced as the cover athlete for Madden 20, making him the first Chiefs player to ever appear on the front of the video game franchises’ box art.
More important than landing on the cover, Mahomes appeared to have broken the Madden curse. Typically, players featured on the cover have terrible seasons or suffer devastating injuries. Mahomes, however, bounced back from a late-season knee injury and won the Super Bowl.
Mahomes Father Played For Six Different MLB Teams
Mahomes father, Pat, was a Major League baseball pitcher. Over the course of his 12-year career, he pitched for six different teams: the Twins, Mets, Red Sox, Pirates, Rangers, and Cubs. He also spent two years (1997-98) in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball for the Yokohama Bay Stars.
He Owns 180 Unique Pairs of Shoes
Mahomes has an entire room dedicated to his collection of 180 pairs of shoes. In fact, he constructed a custom closet equipped with display lights, shelves, and racks for his sunglasses. He also included a security camera.
His collections includes several styles from Adidas, his sponsor since 2017. His sneaker shrine also houses the pair of shoes he wore during his first ever photo shoot. He told Bleacher Report that his favorite pair is his Yeezy Boost 750 Triple Blacks.
He’s Engaged to His High School Sweetheart
In September, Mahomes longtime girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, announced on Instagram that the couple was engaged to be married. “My heart is so full! I love this man so incredibly much and today was so special,” Matthews captioned a picture of the ring on her finger.
Mahomes and Matthews met while at Whitehouse High School in Texas. The couple went to prom together and have been dating for the last eight years. The happy pair lives in Kansas City together with their two dogs, Steel and Silver.
Threw Football Out of Arrowhead Stadium
During training camp ahead of the Chiefs’ 2019 Super Bowl season, Mahomes showcased his arm strength by launching a football up and out of Arrowhead Stadium. The pigskin landed on the concourse.
Two months prior, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager said Mahomes had the league’s most powerful arm: “His arm is just a thing of beauty and it’s also a thing of sheer brute force.”. Mahomes also threw a 70-yard pregame pass during Week 11 of the same season.
Struck Out 16 Batters During No-Hitter in High School
Not unlike his father, Mahomes excelled as a baseball player. During his senior year of high school, he struck out 16 batters without allowing a single hit. Only 11 batters put the ball in play, while Mahomes took care of the rest.
Holds Two Impressive NFL Records
While Mahomes is destined to break numerous NFL records, he currently holds two that are quite impressive for early in his career.
Not only did he threw for over 300 yards in eight consecutive games, he also became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to throw six touchdown passes in a single game.. He accomplished this feat against the Pittsburgh Steelers one day before his 23rd birthday.
