Goodell calls for at least 1-year suspension for Browns QB Watson
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the actions of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson were "egregious" and "predatory behavior" and says the league is seeking a tougher penalty than the six-game suspension handed down by NFL disciplinary officer Sue. L Robinson earlier this month.
At a league meeting on Tuesday, Goodell was asked why the NFL appealed Robinson's decision, ESPN reported.
"We've seen the evidence, she was very clear about the evidence, she reinforced the evidence," Goodell said. "There were multiple violations that were egregious, and it was predatory behavior."
Roquan Smith requests trade from Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith said in a written statement that he is requesting a trade after contract negotiations with the organization have reached an impasse, ESPN reported. Smith noted that the Bears' "new front office regime doesn't value me."
Smith, 25, is one of only six players in league history to have 500 or more tackles, 10-plus sacks, and five or more interceptions in his first four seasons, CBSSports reported. Smith is considered one of the best off-ball linebackers in the league.
Former NFL RB Marshawn Lynch facing multiple charges after arrest in Las Vegas
Former NFL RB Marshawn Lynch, whose nickname was "Beast Mode," is facing multiple charges after being arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving impaired in Las Vegas, according to police, ESPN reported.
In addition to DUI, Lynch, 36, is facing a total of four charges including driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to stay in his lane, and failure to surrender proof of security, CBSSports reported. Lynch was arrested just before 7:30 AM local time, according to Fox 5 in Las Vegas.
The arrest came one day after the Seahawks announced Lynch would serve as a special correspondent this season producing "creative content for a variety of projects."
Marshawn Lynch was a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2007 NFL draft, joining the Seattle Seahawks in his fourth season where he made four consecutive pro bowls, and twice led the league in rushing.
Rams coach Sean McVay signs extension
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, coming off a Super Bowl LVI victory, said on Tuesday that he signed a contract extension during the off-season and that the team had been waiting to announce it until general manager Les Snead signed an extension as well, which hasn't happened yet.
"I feel really good about the direction that's going in and I think it'll be something where it'll be me and Les and you guys will know when that is finalized for us," McVay said. "It is something that we've been taken care of, but it is very important for Les and I to kind of have that represented as we're a partnership and a pair."
McVay didn't disclose the terms of the long-expected deal, ESPN reported.
