Honolulu wins Little League World Series
Honolulu's youth baseball players are world champions again, winning the 2022 Little League World Series with a 13-3 mercy rule victory over international bracket champion Pabao Little League of Curacao in four innings, KHON2 reported.
This marks the second world championship for Honolulu, which won the title in 2018. In a nine-inning game, the mercy rule takes effect – ending the game – if a team is winning by 10 runs after 7 innings or at the top of the sixth if you are the home team. Honolulu is one of the best ever to take the field, outscoring its opponents 60-5, with four of its six wins via the mercy rule.
Mint 1952 Mickey Mantle card sets record
A mint 1952 Mickey Mantle card has set a new record, shattering all previous sales, as the most expensive baseball card ever sold. At Heritage Auctions on Saturday night, the highly sought-after and extremely rare mint condition card of the Hall of Fame New York Yankee sold for $12.6 million.
The new record is nearly double that of the previous record, a 1909 Honus Wagner card that fetched $6.6 million, People reported.
2022 Dodgers poised to make history with multiple records
The 2022 Dodgers are on course to be one of the best teams of all time. They have been one of the most dominant squadrons in the MLB over the last half decade and are poised to secure their 10th straight postseason appearance. According to CBSSports, among the records the Dodgers may set:
-Most Dodgers franchise wins in a season (if they top 106).
-Most MLB wins in a season (if they top 116).
-Highest Dodgers franchise percentage wins (if they top .717).
-Highest MLB percentage wins (if they top .762).
-Best run differential in a season (Dodgers franchise, NL, MLB).
-Joining the .700 when percentage club.
-Joining the 300 club by outscoring the opposition by 300 or more runs in a season. There are currently eight record holders.
Lip reading of Cards manager Marmol reveals what he told ump before being ejected
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol was ejected from last Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after he laid into home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor. The umpire made what many deemed a horrible call on a pitch they believed was clearly a ball, USA Today reported.
According to the announcers, Bucknor was missing calls all night on both sides. Video has emerged where Marmol can clearly be lip-read telling Bucknor "he needs to retire."
