Katie Ledecky shatters world record in 1500 meters, also breaks US record for 800
U.S. Olympian swimmer Katie Ledecky shattered the world record time in the 1,500-meter freestyle race at the Swimming World Cup in Toronto on Saturday. Ledecky clocked in at 15 minutes and 8 seconds, knocking 10 seconds off the previous world record of 15 minutes and 18 seconds set by Germany's Sarah Wellbrock in 2019, NPR reported.
The next day, Ledecky also came close to beating the world record for the 800-meter freestyle race at 8 minutes. The record is 7 minutes and 59 seconds. She broke the U.S. record for the event.
Ledecky, 25, has the most Olympic gold medals of any female swimmer, with seven.
World Series umpire calls perfect game
Major league baseball umpire Pat Hoberg showed why he's the best in the MLB on Saturday, calling a perfect game behind the plate in his first World Series assignment. He also set the record for the fastest lap a stock car has ever run at Martinsville Speedway, beating the track record of 18.954 seconds, by accelerating in his final lap to 18.845 seconds, NBC Sports reported.
Michigan State suspends 4 football players
After an altercation in the tunnel at Michigan Stadium on Saturday night after the team's loss, Michigan State suspended four football players Sunday for their involvement. The suspended players are linebacker Tank Brown, cornerback Khary Crump, safety Angelo Grose and defensive end Zion Young. Coach Mel Tucker said the four have been suspended effective immediately after reviewing what he called disturbing electronic evidence of the incident, ESPN reported.
Tucker said all four will remain suspended until the investigation is completed and didn't rule out additional student-athletes being disciplined as the investigation progresses.
