Legendary Chiefs QB Len Dawson dead at 87
Legendary quarterback Len Dawson, who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as both a player and broadcaster, has died at the age of 87, his family announced on Wednesday, ESPN reported. Dawson led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl IV.
Dawson began his career in 1957 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and also played with the Cleveland Browns before he left the NFL in 1962 to sign with the AFL's Chiefs (then known as the Dallas Texans), where he spent the last 14 seasons of his 19-year pro football career. Dawson led the Texans/Chiefs to three American Football League Championships (1962, 1966, 1969) and was the MVP of Super Bowl IV.
Washington to retire Sonny Jurgensen's No. 9 jersey
The Washington commanders have announced they will retire Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen's No. 9 jersey this season. Jurgensen, 88, was the Redskins' starting QB from 1964-74, winning three NFL passing titles. He was named to 4 pro bowls and led the team to the 1972 Super Bowl against Miami, NBC Sports reported.
Favre says Garoppolo should be 49ers QB
Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre believes the 49ers are making a mistake by not making Jimmy Garoppolo their starting QB over Trey Lance.
"My personal opinion, I would go with Jimmy Garoppolo," Favre said during a recent interview with The33rdteam.com. "He's not as flashy ... He wasn't their first-round pick. And no offense toward Trey Lance, but what Jimmy has done is win ... the guy has won and put the 49ers in a position to compete for the Super Bowl year in and year out and deserves the right to keep playing."
Players say Rodgers best QB in NFL
Raiders' Davante Adams weighed in on Aaron Rodgers, calling him the best QB in the NFL.
"He's the best quarterback, in my opinion, to play this game," Adams said of his former teammate. "He had the Michael Jordan effect. ... [He's [gonna make you play better ... just by being on the field."
Packers' Sammy Watkins, formally a receiver with the Chiefs, compared Aaron Rodgers to Patrick Mahomes.
"I've been with both of 'em, and I'm gonna be honest," Watkins said in a locker room interview. "I think Pat is unbelievably good. But A-Rod is on a whole different level."
