Vin Scully, legendary Dodgers and MLB broadcaster, dies at 94

Vin Scully, the iconic MLB and former Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster, has died at age 94, ESPN reported. The Hall of Fame announcer passed away at his home in the Hidden Hills section of Los Angeles. No cause of death was provided.

Scully was the voice of Dodgers fans in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles for 67 years. His dulcet tones were often heard in movies as well.

"We have lost an icon," said Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten in a statement. "Vin Scully was one of the greatest voices in all of sports. He was a giant of a man, not only as a broadcaster, but as a humanitarian. He loved people. He loved life. He loved baseball and the Dodgers. And he loved his family. His voice will always be heard and etched in all of our minds forever. I know he was looking forward to joining the love of his life, Sandi. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very difficult time. Vin will be truly missed."

Hosmer removed from Soto trade and goes to Red Sox

On Tuesday, one of the biggest trades in baseball reportedly had the Washington Nationals acquiring six players from the San Diego Padres, including Golden Glove and Silver Slugger award-winning first baseman Eric Hosmer, in return for All-Star outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell, NBC San Diego reported.

But on Wednesday, the news comes that the Red Sox will be acquiring Eric Hosmer from the Padres. The Soto mega-deal was tweaked, NESN reported. Hosmer elected not to lift his no-trade clause, forcing San Diego to take him out of the deal and insert a different player. The Red Sox moved in and acquired Hosmer from the Padres in exchange for left-handed pitching prospect Jay Groome.

Vázquez posts heartfelt message to Red Sox after trade

Catcher Christian Vázquez was selected in the ninth round of the 2008 MLB draft by Boston and played for the Red Sox throughout his career, before being traded to the Houston Astros on August 1.

Vázquez made news this week in an awkward moment when he appeared to get the news of his trade during batting practice when speaking to reporters, replying "it's a business."

Nonetheless, he posted a heartfelt farewell message to the team and fans this week, saying, in part: "There are a lot of mixed feelings as I am writing this. It has been 15 years that we have spent together…I have so much to be grateful for. The coaches, clubhouse staff, trainers, and teammates who became my family during my time in all of the Red Sox teams, I am forever grateful, for you helped me when I was away from my family and I felt supported by you."
