Bengals Joe Burrow out 2-4 weeks to undergo surgery
Cincinnati Bengals opened their training camp on Tuesday without the quarterback that led them to the Super Bowl last year. Quarterback Joe Burrow will undergo surgery to have his appendix removed and will miss some practice time during recovery, CBSSports reported.
A typical appendectomy is a short recovery time, with most patients leaving the hospital a day or two after surgery. Recovery time is typically 2 to 4 weeks, after which a patient can resume normal activities.
Garoppolo no longer 49ers starting QB, to be traded
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Jimmy Garoppolo is no longer the starting quarterback. The 49ers will start Trey Lance and try to trade Garoppolo in the coming weeks, CBSSports reported.
"We have moved on to Trey (Lance), Shanahan said on Tuesday. "We think Jimmy would have been traded if the surgery didn't happen. He needed to do it, there's no ill will there at all. It's good to see that he is healthy, but now it's about seeing how all this will end up."
We'll always think about Jimmy," Shanahan added. "He knows we have a team to think about too. We'll work together to find the best thing for that."
Buccaneers sign 1-year deal with 7-time Pro bowl wide receiver
Tom Brady will have a new target as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed a one-year deal with seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones. No details on the specifics of the contract have been released as yet, Sports Illustrated reported.
The 33-year-old Alabama alum was drafted by the Falcons in the first round and the 6th overall pick of the 2011 NFL draft. He is regarded as one of the best receivers of the 2010s. Although not as productive as he was earlier in his career, Tampa is betting that, with Brady at QB, some of Jones' magic will return. Last season, Jones played with the Tennessee Titans and was released in March of this year.
Ex-Patriots WR Danny Amendola retires, Belichick offers praise
Despite receiving calls from multiple teams this off-season, former New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola has decided to retire after thirteen seasons in the NFL, NBC Sports reported.
Amendola went undrafted out of Texas Tech and his attempt to make it as a free agent was featured in the HBO special Hard Knocks. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2008. In addition to the Patriots, he also played for the Eagles, Rams, Dolphins, Lions, and Texans. Amendola said he will move on to pursue "various other interests, including having initial talks with broadcasting networks."
Bill Belichick offers praise for Danny Amendola
"Love Danny," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Tuesday, NBC Sports reported. "He was a very good player for us, had a lot of skill. He missed a little time, but he was out there every chance he could be. He was tough. He was a good football player."
