Cristiano Ronaldo scores 700th career goal
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 700th club goal of his career (and his 144th for the team) in a win at Everton. During his career, the 37-year-old Portuguese footballer scored 450 for Real Madrid, 101 for Juventus, and five for Sporting Lisbon, BBC reported.
Ronaldo's goal on Sunday at Goodison Park was only his second of the season. His 699th goal came in the Europa League against FC Sheriff in September.
Emily Sisson smashes US women's marathon record
Emily Sisson, three days shy of her 31st birthday and with only one previous marathon on her résumé, shattered the American women's marathon record by 43 seconds on Sunday. At the Chicago Marathon, Sisson became the first American woman to run a marathon in less than 2 hours 19 minutes, the Washington Post reported. Sisson finished second to Kenyan Ruth Chepng’etich, who repeated as the Chicago champion with a time of 2:14:18, 14 seconds off the world record set by Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei in the 2019 Chicago Marathon.
Sisson also won the 10,000m at the Olympic track and field trials last summer.
Tom Brady "unnecessarily" thrown to ground, ref says
On a key third down late in the Buccaneers' win over the Falcons on Sunday, referee Jerome Boger made a roughing-the-passer call, later explaining that Atlanta defensive lineman Grady Jarrett "unnecessarily" threw Tom Brady to the ground, ESPNv reported.
"What I had was the defender grabbed the quarterback while he was still in the pocket and unnecessarily throwing him to the ground," Boger said postgame. "That is what I was making my decision based on."
Some are speculating that NFL officials are keeping a closer eye on quarterbacks in the wake of the back-to-back head injuries to Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa earlier this season. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said he believed the call had nothing to do with the quarterback being Brady or Brady's age.
Cole Custer under review by NASCAR for potential blocking actions on the final lap
NASCAR is reviewing data, video, and radio transmissions from Cole Custer's car after he slowed on the backstretch of the final lap. His action seemed to have aided Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Chase Briscoe's bid to advance to the Round of 8, NBC Sports reported.
At the time Custer was running eighth on the final lap, and Briscoe was 12th. Heading down the backstretch, Dillon, Briscoe and Jones came upon Custer's car, which dramatically slowed and impeded Dillon. Even NBC Sports analyst Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on the telecast: "Cole Custer, throwing a block on everybody."
