Gordie Howe’s professional hockey career spanned across five decades from 1946-1980. He entered the NHL as a rookie with the Detroit Red Wings, where he played for 25 years.
Following the 1970-71 season he left the NHL, eventually landing in the World Hockey Association. After the WHA folded in 1979, Howe joined the Hartford Whalers for the 1979-80 season where he played 80 games. He retired at the age of 52.
