During Thursday night's season-opening game against the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford matched a record set by former NFL quarterback Drew Brees for the quickest to reach 50,000 passing yards in NFL history, CBSSports reported.
Stafford matched the mark with a 23-yard completion to Cooper Kupp in the first quarter. Stafford accomplished the feat in his 183rd career game. He becomes the 12th quarterback in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards in a career.
Stafford also approaching all-time passing yardage record set by John Elway
Stafford entered the season only 1,480 yards behind former NFL quarterback John Elway for all-time career passing yardage with 51,475. Stafford averages 274.7 passing yards per game, and if he keeps that pace, he should surpass the record by the sixth game of the season.
Cleat injuries to Panthers' McAfee and Cowboys' Prescott
Panthers' Christian McAfee was added to the injury report after cleats cut his shin during practice for Week 1. The star running back is coming off two consecutive injury-short seasons.
