Tragedy for Texans: rookie WR Metchie III is out with leukemia. Cardinals Murray's $230M contract has some stiff requirements, Lightfoot offers Bears $2.2B to stay, Davante Adams to Packers' HOF, NFL+ streaming service, and more.
Texans rookie WR on Metchie III diagnosed with leukemia, likely out for 2022 season
Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III, a second-round draft pick this spring from Alabama, announced he was diagnosed with leukemia and will likely miss the 2022 season as he undergoes treatment, CBSSports reported.
"Recently, I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia," Metchie said in a statement. "As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season."
Cardinals Murray new $230M contract
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's recently signed $230 million extension contract has a few stiff requirements. An addendum to the deal, labeled "independent study addendum" requires that Murray spends four hours per week studying film, ESPN reported.
The contract stipulation demands that Murray study "material provided to him by the Club in order to prepare for the Club's next upcoming game." In doing so, Murray will receive "credit" for completing the film study. Mandatory meetings do not count and he will not receive the credit if he does not "personally study the provided material in good faith."
Stiff, but not too stiff considering Mary got a guaranteed $105 million for signing and $160 million guaranteed if injured.
Bears: Mayor Lightfoot offers $2.2B for Bears to stay in home stadium; team's new orange alternative helmets
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is proposing between $9 million to $2.2 billion for the Bears to stay in their home stadium, which they have occupied for over 50 years. However, the Bears have already stated in a press release earlier this month they have made a definite decision to move to a new location over thirty miles away from Soldier Field and will not reconsider any other offers – even for their home stadium, the Daily Wire reported.
The Bears will move to Arlington Park, the longtime site of Churchill Downs’ thoroughbred racing in Arlington Heights, an area that is well below national median levels of crime.
Bears unveil new orange alternate helmets
The Chicago Bears have unveiled new orange alternate helmets that they'll don for two games during the 2022 season, the first will be on October 13 vs. Washington. The team posted a picture of the new helmets on Twitter here.
Davante Adams to Packers' HOF
Even though Davante Adams has departed the Green Bay Packers, the team's president Mark Murphy says Adams will still be added to the team's Hall of Fame. Adams reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from the Packers and signed a monster deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, CBSSports reported.
"I have tremendous respect for Davante," Murphy told NBC Sports. "Obviously he was a great player for us, and as fine a person as you'll ever see in the game. The way he handled this entire situation was really outstanding, and I am very confident that he will come back and he will be a member of our Hall of Fame."
