XFL Returning to 8 Cities for 2023 Season

The third time's the charm? The twice-failed XFL football league is making a return under new ownership, with a new vision and a return to eight cities and stadiums the 2023 season.

The XFL went on hiatus after the 2020 season, but it is now being resurrected by a new investment group.

In August 2020, the league was purchased by movie star and former WWE superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, his ex-wife Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital Partners for $15 million, KSAT reported.

The first XFL game is scheduled for February 18, 2023. All of the 43 regular-season and playoff games will be televised and/or streamed on Disney platforms, ABC, ESPN and FX.

"What brings a league to life is the passion of the fandom behind it," said XFL owner/chairwoman Dany Garcia. "In each of these cities we will co-create with our fans and build these teams from the ground up so that they represent the unique fabric of our communities."

8 cities and stadiums will host an XFL team – 3 new teams

Eight cities and stadiums will host an XFL team for the 2023 season. The league is dropping three prior teams from its lineup: New York, Los Angeles and Tampa Bay. These teams were dropped because their markets had the three lowest average attendance figures during the last XFL season played, which was 2020, ESPN reported.

The three markets removed will be replaced by three newcomers: Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Antonio.

The XFL has not yet listed team names or branding for the teams, only the cities, stadiums, and head coaches.
