Verlander wins historic 3rd Cy Young Award

Houston Astros right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander has won the 2022 American League Cy Young Award, the Baseball Writers Association of America announced on Wednesday. Verlander became only the third pitcher in major league history to win the Cy Young Award on three different occasions. Verlander won in 2019 with the Astros and in 2011 with the Detroit Tigers, Culture Map Houston reported. He is also the first pitcher in Astros history to win the award twice.

To Verlander's credit, he battled through and overcame a potentially career-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2020.

Eagles sign 2X Pro Bowler Linval Joseph

The Eagles have signed two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Linval Joseph to a one-year deal, coming in the wake of rookie defensive tackle Jordan Davis going on injured reserve, as well as second-year defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu designated to injured reserve, CBSSports reported.

Joseph, 34, was a second-round pick of the Giants in 2010, but his best Pro Bowl years were with the Vikings.

Taylor Heinicke to remain Commanders starting QB

Commanders coach Ron Rivera announced on Wednesday that Taylor Heinicke will start for Washington against the Texans in Houston for week 11. Meanwhile, previous starter Carson Wentz has been cleared to begin throwing but hasn't been designated by doctors to return from injured reserve, NBC Sports reported.

Bruins activate goaltender Swayman, demote Kinkaid

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the team has added 23-year-old goaltender Jeremy Swayman to the active roster and assigned goaltender Keith Kinkaid, 33, to Boston's development team of the AHL, the Providence Bruins, NHL.com reported.

Packers release third-rounder Amari Rodgers

The Packers have released their 2021 third-round pick, Amari Rodgers, just days after the wide receiver fumbled a punt versus the Cowboys in week 10. Despite arriving with high expectations out of Clemson, Rodgers, 23, struggled to make an impact in his one-and-a-half seasons in Green Bay. In his rookie year in 16 games, he caught only four out of eight passes for 45 yards. He served as the primary punt returner this year but fumbled five times, CBSSports reported.

Cowboys sign 4th round WR Antonio Callaway

While the Dallas Cowboys are still eager to sign three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr., for now, they added depth to their receiving ranks by adding 25-year-old wideout Antonio Calloway to their roster. Callaway was a fourth round pick in 2018 and has 53 catches for 695 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in his career, and hasn't played in the NFL since 2020, CBSSports reported.
