Cowboys' Prescott hopeful to return by October or November

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a fractured thumb in Sunday night's loss to the Buccaneers. Prescott underwent surgery to stabilize the thumb and will miss at least six games during his recovery, CBSSports reported.

The Cowboys are hopeful that Prescott will return somewhere between Week 8 in October or Week 10 in November. The Cowboys have a Week 9 bye. Cooper Rush, a six-year veteran, looks to be the Cowboys' starter. Rush went 7 of 13 for 64 yards after replacing Prescott in Sunday night's game.

Cowboys legend Michael Irvin slams idea of Cowboys signing Kaepernick

Rumors have been swirling that the Cowboys might sign Colin Kaepernick, 34, as the team's quarterback with Dak Prescott out until October or November. Hall of Fame wide receiver and former Cowboy Michael Irvin weighed in on the matter. "Let's just stop," the ESPN announcer said. "Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for what -- five years now?"

"Let’s stop all of a sudden thinking we can go resurrect Colin Kaepernick and he’s going to come and resurrect a football team," Irvin added.

Steelers' T.J. Watt won't need surgery, out a month

During the second half of the Pittsburgh Steelers game against Cincinnati, star pass rusher T.J. Watt went down with an injury. The team was worried he suffered a torn pec, but now it appears the reigning defensive player of the year did not experience a full tear and will not require surgery.

Watt should be able to return after sitting out a month or so, returning before the end of October, depending on how quickly the injury heals, CBSSports reported.

Seahawks stun Denver Broncos, Seattle fans mystified by field goal decision

Former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson returned to Lumen Field wearing a Broncos uniform, with the Super Bowl champion facing the franchise he had spent a decade with, USA Today reported. And after orchestrating so much weight-game magic over his career, he wasn't able to do so for his new team.

Trailing 17-16 near midfield in the final minute, Wilson turned it over to kicker Brandon McManus to attempt a 64-yard field goal. McManus missed. (The longest field goal in NFL history is 66 yards.) Broncos fans were baffled at why the team would opt for a field goal when they still had a minute on the board and all three of their timeouts, Sports Illustrated reported. The Internet was not kind, lambasting the decision not to give Wilson the chance to pick up the needed five yards

"We knew there was going to be growing pains," Rodgers said. "It's the mental mistakes that we've really got to clean up, and there was too many across the board."
