Dale Earnhardt Jr. to race at North Wilkesboro Speedway Aug. 31

Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced on Tuesday that he will drive a JR Motorsports late model Chevrolet at North Wilkesboro Speedway in the scheduled CARS Tour race on August 31, NBC Sports reported. He will carry a sponsorship from the longtime Earnhardt family associate, Sun Drop, and his car will be numbered 3.

North Wilkesboro Speedway reopened this month in a long-anticipated 'racetrack revival' and is located in the Brushy Mountains of North Carolina.

NASCAR to review making penalty call quicker in race

After a controversial cup race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course last weekend, Elton Sawyer, NASCAR vice president of officiating and technical inspection, admitted on Tuesday that it was clear Ross Chastain committed a violation.

Officials say they will look at ways in which they can issue the penalty quicker in order to avoid a situation where a car that has committed an infraction is racing for the lead, NBC Sports reported. When asked if NASCAR could have made that violation call on Chastain quicker, Sawyer responded: "I would answer that with a short one-word yes."

Richard Childress says great to be competitive again

A victory on Sunday in Indianapolis by Richard Childress racing driver Tyler Reddick, marks only the second time since 2014 that the team has won at least two cup races in a season. The last time was in 2017 when Austin Dillon won the Coca-Cola 600 and Ryan Newman won this spring Phoenix race, NBC Sports reported.

"It’s great to be back competitive again,” car owner Richard Childress said after Reddick’s win, which was his second of the season. "We haven’t been competitive."

"But it feels great to come to a race track and know you’re going to be one of the teams that’s going to be racing for the win," Childress added.
