Dolphins hit with heavy penalties and fines for tampering with Tom Brady

Following a six-month investigation, the NFL has hit the Miami Dolphins hard with penalties and fines for tampering with quarterback Tom Brady and the agent for then-New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.

The league has stripped the Dolphins of its 2023 first-round pick, as well as forfeiting their 2024 third-round selection, ESPN reported.

The investigation also found that the Dolphins' team owner Stephen Ross and vice chairman/limited partner Bruce Beal both violated the NFL's anti-tampering policy on three occasions from 2019 to 2022. Ross was fined $1.5 million and suspended through October 17, whereby he is not permitted to be at the Dolphins' facility or represent the team at any team event, as well as cannot attend any league meeting before the annual meeting in 2023.

Beal was fined $500,000 and is not permitted to attend any league meetings for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Steelers Boswell tied as highest-paid kicker in NFL history

The Steelers have signed kicker Chris Boswell to a four-year extension, which now ties him as the highest-paid kicker in NFL history. The $20 million deal signs Boswell, 31, through the 2027 season, and includes 12.5 million guaranteed. In terms of salary, Boswell is now tied with Justin Tucker, 32, of the Baltimore Ravens as the highest-paid NFL kicker in history.

Last season, Boswell made eight of his career-high nine attempts of at least 50 yards and all but two of his 29 point-after attempts, CBSSports reported. He had a career-best of 95 percent of his attempts in 2020. He made the Pro Bowl in 2017.

Cowboys most valuable sports franchise, worth $7.64B

A new report finds that the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in all of sports with a net worth of $7.64 billion. The study found that the average NFL franchise is worth $4.1 billion, CBSSports reported. The next most valuable NFL team was the Los Angeles Rams at a value of $5.91 billion, followed by the New England Patriots at $5.88 billion.

In terms of other sports, there are only four NBA franchises and three MLB franchises that have a value of at least $4 billion. By comparison, the New York Yankees of the MLB are worth $630 million less, according to Sportico, who issued the report.

Chiefs sign DE Dunlop

The Kansas City Chiefs have worked out a deal to sign free-agent defensive end Carlos Dunlap in a move to bolster its pass rushing, Sports Illustrated reported. The 12-year veteran was a second round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2010 NFL draft. Dunlap was traded to the Seahawks in October 2020, playing the entire 2021 season, and was released in March this year. No details on the terms of the contract. Dunlop has 96 career sacks.
