Beaned batter consoles shaken pitcher in viral Little League moment

Sometimes it takes kids to remind us of our humanity, as they often stand as the best representatives of sportsmanship.

Such is the case in a heartwarming moment occurring in a Little League baseball game that has gone viral in which a batter who was struck in the head by a pitch, walked out to the mound and consoled the remorseful pitcher who beaned him. See the video here.

The incident happened on Tuesday with a spot in the Little League World Series on the line in the Southwest Region championship game, the New York Post reported.

Pitcher Kaiden Shelton of Pearland, Texas, accidentally hit Isaiah Jarvis of Tulsa, Okla., on the ear flap of his helmet. The batter fell to the ground, clutching his head.

Eventually, Jarvis dusted himself off and made the trot to first base, seeming to be OK. However, Jarvis noticed Shelton was upset. He called for time and went over to the mound, where he gave the pitcher a hug and offered words of encouragement.

"Hey, you’re doing just great," Jarvis said to Shelton before returning to first base.

Jarvis's gesture spurred the rest of Pearland's infield to go to the mound, consoling Shelton as well.

Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale breaks wrist, out for season

Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Chris Sale, a seven-time All-Star and two-time AL strikeout leader, broke his right wrist in a bicycle accident last week. He underwent surgery on Monday.

Recovery from the repair will put Sale out for the remainder of the season. It marks the latest in a slew of injuries that have caused Sale to miss most of the season this year, resulting in only 5 and 2/3 innings pitched. Sale, 33, previously suffered a broken rib cage, as well as a fractured pinky on his throwing hand, ESPN reported.

Yankees judge chasing Maris'/AL home run record

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is chasing the AL record of Roger Maris of 61 home runs in a single season set in 1961. Currently, Judge has an MLB-leading 44 home runs, CBSSports reported. Judge also leads the league in hitting for RBIs (98), runs scored (93), total bases, and more.

Maris' record was once the MLB record, but it still stands as the American League record. The MLB single-season home run record is 73, set by Barry Bonds in 2001.
