Why were there two Monday night games? More to come

The NFL rolled out a doubleheader for Monday Night Football during Week 2. CBS Sports reported that it has to do with a new TV contract between ESPN/ABC. They are upping the number of games from 17 to 23. Because of this, there will be three weeks during the season where the "Monday Night Football" branding will appear even if it's not specifically on a Monday or a true back-to-back doubleheader. The next so-called doubleheader will occur in Week 8 when there'll actually be a Sunday morning game as the Broncos play the Jaguars in London. The final doubleheader comes in week 18.
